Nelson Snyder

Nelson L. Snyder Sr. of Sellersville, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2015, at Grand View Hospital, West Rockhill Township. He was 90.
He was the husband of Kathryn A. (Grote) Snyder. The couple had celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary, March 16, 2015.
Born in Perkasie, he was a son of the late Clarence L. and Emma (Hutt) Snyder. He was a 1943 graduate of Sell-Perk High School, Perkasie.

A U. S. Army Veteran of World War II, he served with the Third Infantry Division stationed in Italy and France. He fought in three major battles and was the recipient of two Purple Heart Medals and two Bronze Stars with a Cluster.

Mr. Snyder was employed as a dairy tradesman instructor at Graterford Prison, Graterford, Pa., for over 27 years until retiring in 1978. He also worked concurrently as a self-employed landscaper for over 30 years.

He was a member of St. Michael's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Sellersville, where he served on the church council as well as the church property committee.
Mr. Snyder was a life member of the V.F.W. Forrest Lodge No. 245, Sellersville, and a member of the Wallace-Willard-Keller American Legion Post No. 242, Quakertown. He was active with the Cub Scouts and the Boy Scouts, serving as assistant scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop No. 1, Sellersville, for many years.

An avid hunter and fisherman, he was a member of the Branch Valley Fish & Game Club, Perkasie, and enjoyed spending time at the family property in Hawley, Pa.

Surviving with his wife are five sons, Edward L. Snyder and his wife, Nancy of Perkasie, Nelson Lee Snyder Jr. and his wife, Sue of Sellersville, Charles A. Snyder Sr. and his wife, Deborah of Quakertown, Clyde G. Snyder and his wife, Debra of Jim Thorpe, Pa., and Arthur R. Snyder and his wife, Cathryn of Pitman, Pa.; a daughter, Kathryn A. Bergey of Perkasie; 15 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Clarence B. and Gordon W. Snyder.

His funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 6, at St. Michael's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 25 E. Church St., Sellersville.
